New HBO Series: GIRLS.

OK so my latest obsession is a hilariously confronting TV show produced by HBO called 'Girls'.
It is the brain baby of the incredibly talented Lena Dunham (pictured below) who wrote, produced and stars in the very dark comedy. The series is also produced by heavyweight director/writer/producer Judd Apatow (Freaks & Geeks, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek, Superbad... and the list goes on)

Apatow's involvement as an executive producer on 'Girls' started with an email.
After watching the 2010 indie film 'Tiny Furniture' (which I have yet to watch) Apatow sent writer-director-star Dunham a note expressing his excitement about the budding star & turns out she had something extremely riveting to share with him.

The series revolves around Dunham as a single girl navigating love and work in New York with her friends. Dunham is quick, vulnerable and a bit of a nerdy slut (but we love it).

I have only watched 4 episodes but it's already covered the struggles of living out of home, opium tea, texts of the nude variety, sexual harassment at work, abortions, STD's, gay boyfriends, gay dads, cheating, live bands, babysitters and virgins. I think that says enough.

The writing is absolutely hilarious, it is witty, raw and very engaging. I almost cried when I realised the episodes were only 30 minute long but thank-god Showcase airs 2 eps at a time.

The show has already been on the receiving end of high praise from The New Yorker, The New York Times, and New York Magazine.

People must start watching it - we have a cult series on our hands!
If you enjoy shows like How To Make It In America, Bored To Death, Californication, Nurse Jackie & United States of Tara you will be addicted to this show.
